Vintage Heart Shaped Filigree Celluloid Ring Box – Baileys the Jewellers, Burton On Trent UK – 1930's – Two Tone with Red Velvet Heart

A vintage advertising heart shaped ring box dating from the 1930's.

Made from celluloid with a beautiful cut out filigree design to the bronze colour lid and border of the ivory colour base
Open it up to find a lovely red velvet heart with white ribbon to slip the ring under

The base has a central panel with the following in gold script
"The Jewellers, Baileys, 175 Station Street, Burton-On-Trent, Phone 3281, Est 1878"

Baileys were a very well known business in Burton-On-Trent and I found some lovely history on the internet

"The story of the jewellery store goes back to 1840 when the premises at 175 Station Street was a private house. It became a jewellery shop in 1878 and then remained virtually unchanged for decades. Around 1905-1906, the clock was installed outside the shop and this continues to remain a landmark in the town.
In August 1989 saw the family's 111-year link to a business come to an end. Owen Jones and his wife Annette retired from Bailey's, but eager to keep the tradition, new owners James Roy Fitch and his son Nicholas decided to retain the name H Bailey (Jewellers) despite having no link to the family."

The box measures approx 2" x 1.75" x 0.2" and due to the flat shape of the box it is for a wedding band/eternity ring rather than anything with a large setting.

In excellent vintage condition with the following minor age related defects
The gold script is a little worn and the top left hand corner has a very slight gap – see photos
