BOOK SHOW is about appreciating books as cultural artifacts. Book Show is also about community, DIY and the fringes of society.
I decided to open an independent book shop when I left my music industry job in 2012. BOOK SHOW was physical space until 2019 when my landlord more than doubled my rent because of gentrification. Now, Book Show is a traveling show and online business!
The philosophy behind Book Show is to keep the art of the printed word alive by offering beautiful and unique vintage books, fanzines and self-published wonders.
The nature of BOOK SHOW stems from my lifelong interest in the history of carnivals, sideshows and roadside attractions. These establishments were created by entrepreneurial, independent spirits. They were designed to draw patrons from their mundane everyday lives and into a imaginative space full of art, natural and technological wonders and fringe performance. BOOK SHOW captures this spirit in its showcase for the book, an irreplaceable physical art form in an increasingly intangible digital world and our support for local, underground and independent artists.
