VTG OJIBWAY Cedar Bark Basket with Decorative Curly Q's & Vine Wrap, Antique Handwoven Textile Vessle, Anishinaabe Made, Great Lakes Region

Great Lakes Region Ojibway upright woven cedar basket showcasing the craftsman and cultural heritage of the Anishinaabe. The object features a beautiful natural cedar brown patina among hand harvested cedar splints and root twine. The brown colour's depth is far more vibrant than photos display. Estimated as made at the turn of the 20th century to approximately 1920, at a time when unavoidable changes were happening to Ojibway Tribes due to colonization and the enforcement of residential boarding school attendance – this basket represents a cultural tradition almost completely lost to future generations.

Handmade, one-of-a-kind item, the antique pre-owned utilitarian vessel is in good condition for its senior age. There are ever-so-slight frays on three of the decorative curly q's of the basket. This factor doesn't effect the sturdiness or functionality of the item. There is a twine woven top and bottom, with 4 twine rows securely wrapped in cedar at the basket's top edge. Circular twine pattern and cedar splint form and support the bottom.
