Model is 5 foot 8 inches tall. Sized up to XL with room for layering.
This soft and cuddly jacket was made from a hand stitched patchwork quilt I purchased at an estate sale in SW Virginia. A beautiful floral calico print fabric was used for the quilt backing making this a perfect quilt to make reversible jackets as it was so large I was able to make two!
Sewn to the back of the quilt was a hand written note
“My mother made this, should go to Thelma as there are a lot of her dress patches in it. Bertha – I helped quilt it. Made in (about 1946 to 1938.”
The styling is oversized with a fold over collar with all inside seams covered with matching binding fabric to match the lining. This creates a finished look on the inside of the garment.
I am a huge fan of pockets but I don’t want to cover the beautiful patchwork pattern of the quilt, so you will find the outside pockets placed within the side seams of the jacket. The reverse side uses the side pocket pouches and I hand stitched these to make patch pockets on the reverse side.
This jacket is oversized creating the option for layering and fitting multiple sizes. Features include a fold over collar, and dropped shoulder sleeves long enough to roll up as cuffs that show the matching lining fabric. The fully finished inside seams allow this jacket to be reversible.
Sizing:
Sleeve length measured from neck edge: 31 inches (cuff can be rolled to adjust sleeve length)
Back neck edge to hem: 30.5 inches
Front neck edge to hem: 27 inches
Pit to pit: 31 inches – check an item of clothing that fits you well to compare for sizing but this jacket is meant to be oversized.
I suggest measuring favorite coat that fits you well for length and pit to pit measurements in inches.
Cleaning For Vintage Quilted Coats/Jackets:
This jacket can be washed in the washing machine on the gentle cycle using with very mild detergents, dried partially in the dryer on a cool setting and laying flat to dry. Regular detergents, dry cleaning chemicals, and a strong machine cycle will tear apart the vintage fabrics. If the quilt contains the old batting, you will also see bunching of the batting into individual clumps.
Satisfaction Guaranteed:
Free shipping and returns accepted if received in original condition within 30 days of purchase. Buyer pays return shipping. Please carefully check measurements listed for each item. I suggest measuring an item of clothing that fits you well for length and pit to pit measurements in inches.
Yours,
Judy
