For the Pyrex ephemera collector: a vintage Pyrex box — an empty package only, originally containing a 1960s Federal Eagle 3 quart bowl, designed to Mix Bake Serve. One of two lines marketed under the Hearth Group name (the other was Brittany Blue), Federal Eagle was produced in 1967-1968.
According to the Pyrex Museum of Glass, Federal Eagle included a limited number of items. “Sold individually was the 1 ½ quart Mixing Bowl (478) and the 3-quart Mixing Bowl (479). Also available was the 9 oz. mug (489), which exists in two versions. One version resembles the mixing bowls with a large brown eagle printed on a creamy yellow background with a gold band circumnavigating the bottom of the mug. The other version is solid brown with a gold band along the bottom of the mug.” https://pyrex.cmog.org/pattern-library/federal-eagle
Dimensions: The square faux wood grain cardboard box on offer here measures 9.75 inches long and wide by 5 inches tall.
Pyrex empty box front features a four color photo of the entire Federal Eagle line, with Gouda cheese at the fore and a two tiered fruit display and primitive wooden spice cabinet in the background. The Hearth Group logo, the words plus a burning log on an Early American style sign, appears at the upper right corner, with Pyrex ® Ware on the left.
Markings: Pyrex ® Ware, the Hearth Group logo and by Corning appear on the left end of the box, along with 3 Qt. Federal Eagle Bowl. The right end, designed for opening, includes the words Corning / Corning Glass Works. This end also features an orange mailing label, indicating the bowl was shipped to Gilbertson’s, a now-defunct Mount Horeb, Wis., hardware store, from Franklin Hardware? Co., Milwaukee.
Condition: Empty Pyrex Federal Eagle mixing bowl box is in good vintage shape: brightly colored and complete with one end of the box neatly opened. There’s a surface tear on the front under Pyrex Ware, where a piece of tape was removed (one piece is still there) and there’s some wrinkling and loose edges (could easily be glued) to the four-color top sheet. Light wear and a few smudges from original opening and long-time storage. Includes orange label with backstory on where the bowl was purchased, as described above.
