Vintage Art Deco Big Eyed Birds Lusterware Cream and Sugar Set – Made in Japan – Hand Painted Porcelain – Early 1940's – Serveware-sid-87578

Scarce vintage Art Deco porcelain big eyed birds lusterware cream and sugar set, hand painted in Japan dating to the early 1940's.

The set is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks to the porcelain and very clean. The birds are a combination of blue lusterware and marigold lusterware (wings) with gold gilt on the tops of their heads. The wings on the sugar bowl bird are a bit lighter marigold in color than the wings on the creamer. The sugar bowl bird does show heavy wear to the gold gilt on the top of it's head simply due to use in the era, of course the sugar bowl bird would have been handled daily to remove the lid to get to the sugar thus the gold gilt wearing off with natural use of the piece over time. Overall, all hand painting is intact, vibrant and colorful on both pieces other than the head of the sugar bowl bird. Truly wonderful Art Deco porcelain collectibles!

The sugar bowl bird measures:
5 1/4" from tip of tail to tip of beak
2" in width across the body
4" in height (bottom base to top of head)

The creamer measures:
5 1/2" from back of handle to tip of beak spout
2" in width across the body
3 7/8" in height (bottom base to top of head)
