UNUSED 1920s RUDOLPH VALENTINO (1895-1926) Italian Silent Film Actor Les Vedettes de Cinema Antique French Postcard
10 in stock
RUDOLPH VALENTINO WAS BORN IN CASTELLANETA, ITALY ON MAY 5, 1895. HIS FATHER WAS A CAVALRY CAPTAIN AND LATER A VETERINARIAN AND HIS MOTHER WAS A LADY IN WAITING TO A LOCAL MARQUESS. RUDOLPH HAD THREE SIBLINGS, AN OLDER BROTHER, A YOUNGER SISTER AND AN OLDER SISTER THAT DIED IN INFANCY. AFTER FINISHING SCHOOL, VALENTINO LIVED IN PARIS IN 1912 BUT SOON RETURNED TO ITALY. UNABLE TO SECURE EMPLOYMENT, HE LEFT FOR THE UNITED STATES IN 1913. HE WAS PROCESSED AT ELLIS ISLAND, AT THE AGE OF 18 ON DECEMBER 23, 1913. VALENTINO WOULD EVENTUALLY BECOME A SEX SYMBOL OF THE 1920S, KNOWN IN HOLLYWOOD AS THE LATIN LOVER, THE GREAT LOVER, OR SIMPLY VALENTINO. HIS EARLY DEATH AT THE AGE OF 31 CAUSED MASS HYSTERIA AMONG HIS FANS, FURTHER CEMENTING HIS PLACE IN EARLY CINEMATIC HISTORY AS A CULTURAL FILM ICON.
POSTCARD IS IN GOOD UNUSED CONDITION.
