PEARL WHITE WAS BORN IN GREEN RIDGE, MISSOURI ON MARCH 4, 1889. SHE WAS AN AMERICAN STAGE AND FILM ACTRESS. SHE BEGAN HER CAREER ON THE STAGE AT AGE 6, AND LATER MOVED ON TO SILENT FILMS. SHE WAS DUBBED THE "QUEEN OF THE SERIALS". WHITE WAS ATHLETIC AND NOTED FOR DOING THE MAJORITY OF HER OWN STUNTS, MOST NOTABLY IN "THE PERILS OF PAULINE", WHICH MADE HER A MAJOR CELEBRITY. SHE WAS SOON EARNING $1,750 PER WEEK. DURING THE NEXT FIVE YEARS, SHE STARRED IN MORE POPULAR SERIALS. IN THESE SHE WOULD AGAIN DO HER OWN STUNTS, SUCH AS FLY AIRPLANES, RACE CARS AND SWIM ACROSS RIVERS. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS LED TO A SEVERE BACK INJURY WHICH CAUSED HER PAIN FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. WHILE CONTINUING TO WORK, WHITE WOULD EASE HER PAIN WITH DRUGS AND ALCOHOL. BY 1937, WHITE WAS SUFFERING FROM LIVER FAILURE. PEARL WHITE DIED ON AUGUST 4, 1938 IN NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE, FRANCE DUE TO HER LIVER DISEASE.
