Biography
Kono Shuson (1890-1987)
Japanese painter of the Taisho to Showa era. Born in 1890.
Studied under Tajika Chikuson. Exhibited at the Teiten and other exhibitions.
In 1921, he co-founded the Nihon Nanga-in with Mizuta Chikuho.
In 1960, he revived the same institute with Matsubayashi Keigetsu and became the director.
He was active in overseas touring exhibitions.
He died in 1987, at the age of 97.
He was from Ehime Prefecture. His real name was Jun.

The "vermilion bamboo" is considered a symbol of good fortune and good luck. It originally refers to the vermilion bamboo that grows on Mount Yanping in China. It has been prized as a symbol of the three virtues of longevity, good fortune, and wealth.
