Materials: Magnailium, Sycamore wood

This striking Picquot K3 kettle was designed in the 1930s by Jean Picquot, and with sweeping lines and somewhat nautical stance it is clearly influenced by Art Deco.

Elegance, form and function brought together into one essential household object; the dome design and innovative manufacture of Picquot K3 was seen to be so special it was chosen for the famous 1946 “Britain Can Make It” post War exhibition in London at the V&A museum.

Produced by Burridge & Boyde in Northampton and branded Newmaid (later Picquot) it works on gas and electric cookers and you can use easily it on your induction hob – just add an induction hob steel plate.

The kettle was produced by Burridge and Boyde in Northampton, England under the Newmaid brand which was then changed to Picquot.

After WW2, Picquot’s design team created an equally stylish teapot, coffee/ water pot, milk jug, sugar bowl and tray in the late 1940s, embrcing the revivial of Art Deco and Modernism design after the design hiatus caused by the war.

Typifying the best of British mid-century design and manufacture, Picquot had created beautifully sustainable household objects which sold well throughout the 50s and into the 60s.

Picquotware is made of solid magnailium, an alloy of magnesium and aluminium, and is cast in one piece – no leakage and it pours perfectly.

The shapely wooden handles on the kettles and pots are carved from sycamore. It is pretty much indestructible, feels great in the hand, functions well and will last you a lifetime. Sustainable vintage living at its best.

Piquotware is a superb midcentury sustainable choice, and makes the perfect gift for the fan of vintage and tea. See our other listings for teapots, water and milk jugs, sugar bowls and trays.

The kettle – which is the star piece in the set – is a rare find. The kettle’s approximate dimensions are: base 21cms diameter, length back to front of spout 25cm, height 18cm.

Some people prefer their Piquotware shiny, and others prefer the more matt patina look that builds with time. It will always polish up to a shine no matter what is thrown at it. Picquotware is solid, not plated, and cast in one piece so there are no leaks.

These Picquot pieces have already lasted one lifetime, and will last for many, many decades longer.

How to clean… Don’t put Picquot ware in the dishwasher, just wipe down with a wet cloth and dry with a cloth. To polish them, we use Autosol metal polish. Descale if necessary.
