Origin & History
Polish Pottery is hand crafted and hand painted in the Bolesławiec region of Poland. This region is famous for its naturally found white clay which artisans have used for centuries to craft this durable and beautiful stoneware. In the 1700s, the artists of this region designed and made pottery for royalty, earning them a reputation and a standard for excellence that is still upheld today. Each piece of pottery is carefully formed and painted by hand to ensure that exceptional attention to detail is paid to each piece. Artists train for years to develop their craft. Once an artist reaches a highly advanced level of skill, they are allowed to design their own patterns. The most beautiful and intricate patterns are called UNIKAT patterns. These patterns bear the artist’s signature. Becoming a UNIKAT designer is a highly coveted position for every artist in Bolesławiec.
