Antique handmade oval wood pantry box with a lid. This container measures 5 3/4" tall (with the lid on) x 16" x 10 1/2". It has a small rounded carved out area on each end, just about the size of a thumb. I believe this was done intentionally to help grab or carry this box. The lid top does not quite meet the edge at the two long sides. The wood is not rough but it may have split off at one time. Please view the photos for a closer look.
These type boxes were used to store all kinds of food items – flour, sugar, cheese, etc. This is a beautiful old storage container in an unusual shape.
