In my home county there was a legendary tree. Listed in the tree register of the British Isles as the biggest and oldest Elm tree in England at 300 years old.
This is exceptional as due to disease Elms rarely last long.
In 2010 this rare, famous tree was damaged badly in a storm. It was saved but unfortunately had to be cut down in 2014. They kept a 12ft stump as a memorial.
The very small amount of it left has been sitting unused, hidden a waste

You can feel a great fulfilment knowing that your timeless shelf is part of a circular economy by reusing and giving purpose to England's oldest Elm tree.

I stamp the inside of the shelf with where it grew and the years it stood. I also include a copy of the newspaper articles about the history of this incredible tree.

I find it very gratifying hand crafting lifeless wood into an exquisite piece of distinctive furniture.

My step by step making process in full is available for you to see in the photos. These are the highlights…

I treat each piece with Cuprinol 5*. It prevents and kills anything harmful to wood, giving you complete peace of mind that your investment is protected.

After the treatment, I spend a good deal of time sanding. This way you get to enjoy the buttery, warm, burst of smokey colours. They are all delightfully different in each piece.

I then apply Danish Oil. I only use 100% natural and organic oil, meaning you don't have to worry about harmful chemicals coming into your environment. It ensures the shelves are hard wearing, making them ideal to use in a variety of settings.

Last is my favourite part. I enhance the live edge by reviving the gorgeous natural colour. I love this because I get to see the restored beauty of this spectacular tree looking incredibly striking.

This shelf measures 104cms in length, width varies, at its widest it is 24cms and at its narrowest 15.5cms. Depth is 2cms.

Free delivery is available for all in the UK. As the shelves are ready to be shipped delivery is speedy. All other countries are as reasonably priced as I can offer for shipping.

Enhance your kitchen making it like no other. An elegant place to hold your favourite books. Or make your child's room unique with nursery shelves.

And what will you use to hang your new shelf – brass brackets look stunning against the shelves’ warm hues. A floating shelf ? These are very fashionable now. Whatever you decide they will look tastefully understated.

You can see in the video, I have balanced the shelf on the silver hooks for the purpose of the video and photos. The shelf is untouched and ready to hang any way you choose.

For your convenience, where I have cut a shelf from the same length, I have listed each individual shelf as the same number e.g. 1A and 1B. The same number means the same grain and same length. If you'd like the pair just look to see if the matching number is still for sale. Mixing and matching the shelves works just as well.

Elm is a coarse grained hardwood which makes it very tough. Some pieces have small splits, this does not affect the shelf. Small splits, dips etc are all part of the character of the piece.
