This cooler cat shelter is made from a Coleman 70qt cooler which keeps your feral cat warm, dry, and safe during harsh weather. Feral cats can relax comfortably during the day and at night in these shelters, which also serves as a hiding place for them.
One flap door and one open circular entry are included with this shelter, providing an easy escape option. Some feral cats feel frightened when another animal or threat approaches and the feral cats might be unable to open the flap doors as quickly as possible. However, an unobstructed open entrance allows them to quickly escape if necessary.
Straw is the only bedding material that can effectively regulate temperature, keeping feral cats warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Straw repels moisture and helps keep your cat dry. We include a free bale of straw with the shelter. If you'd like, we also have a self-warming mat available as an option. Straw can be layered on top of the self-warming mat to encourage the cat to burrow into the straw and sleep on the mat which provides them additional warmth.
Inside of the shelter measures: Length 24.5 x Width 11 x Height 14 Inches
Outside of the shelter measures: Length 31.20 x Width 15.70 x Height 17 Inches. It will fit two medium to large size cats or one medium size cat and kittens
Feral cats require a significant amount of time to adjust to new environments or shelters. Allow them the time they require and don't force them to use the shelter. Don't wait until the winter! Purchase the cat house well in advance so that cats can see, smell, feel, and explore their new shelter. When the harsh winter hits they are already safe and warm inside the shelter
To keep rainwater out of the shelter, always cover the top with whatever cost-effective waterproof material you have. For example, a tarp, an old tote box lid, or anything else and weigh it down with bricks or stones. If you have raccoons or any other bullies around, set the shelter on top of any table so that the cat can simply jump and access the shelter safely. Our shelters are very light weight and can be carried/moved very easily using the handles
