A king with big hands of generosity and good spirit. Embracing his kingdom, as small as it might be, it feels to her that needs protection from the bad and evil.
My new small Boro inspired mat, lots of stitches, a great mix of blues and textures.
My Boro interpretation is always a personal take. Boro textiles came out of necessity, poverty, the need to reinforce and patch garments that were precious in the far cold of the Japanese North. I love using Boro for these small textiles that tell stories, a flash of light, an insight into a thought, a feeling. Mottainai-no waste fits well with me, my life, my work.
It measures 6.5”x4.75”.

All Japanese textiles taken from vintage kimonos but also some new for good measure. A red leather loop for hanging.
Here in my little kitchen, certainly not regal but my small kingdom nevertheless.
