Japanese Style Teacup: Sea Green Crystalline Glaze on Porcelain

This sweet cup started out on my wheel here in my Pittsboro studio. It is just over 2.5 inches tall and holds 4 oz. It is glazed with my yellow, green, and turquoise crystalline glazes, and the inside of the mug is glazed with a clear liner glaze.

All of the crystalline glazes that I use are original glazes invented myself. Each crystalline glazed piece is unique in that they cannot be duplicated. The crystals are never the same from one piece to another.

I use high fire porcelain, and fire to a peak temperature of 2350°F – aka cone 11. What this means is that the porcelain is fully vitrified and watertight even without the glazes. Because of the way that I fire and the glazes that I use, all of my work is fully functional – watertight, lead free, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe.
