WELCOME TO CAST IRON COUNTRY!
Cast Iron Country arose out of our passion for all things Americana. I've been a sportswriter for 40 years including 2002-2018 as a regular byline for millions of fans at MLB.com, still a Hall of Fame voter and author of Diamonds from the Dugout. I believe Baseball and Cast Iron go hand-in-hand as institutions for the same timespan!
While writing a regular BBQ blog for a food site I developed an interest in cast iron that I had taken for granted before. A trip to the Lodge Cast Iron foundry in Tennessee cemented my interest, and that led to a startup business called Cast Iron Country. My wife and I have hundreds of amazing pieces in our collection, which is about 90% Griswold and its variations including Erie, Puritan, Iron Mountain, Victor, etc.
We also adore and respect the heritage of other antique cast iron brands, and our listings will mix in pans from Lodge, Wagner, WagnerWare, Sidney Hollow Ware, Vollrath, Birmingham Stove & Range (BSR), Wapak, Martin Stove & Range, Favorite Piqua, Chicago Hardware Foundry (CHF), Dixie Foundry, gatemarks etc.
Our mission at Cast Iron Country is to rescue cast iron so it doesn't go to the scrapyard, so it can be restored and rehomed. We want the younger generation to know about those master craftsmen and their trade, which was fueled by immigration. You know you are getting cast iron that was the best of America when it was made, and we will always be transparent in showing exactly what it looks like now, with or without some imperfections that are just going to happen after a century or more!
We scour the country for these cast iron skillets, lids, Dutch ovens, oval roasters, cast iron griddles, waffle irons, chicken fryers, tobacco cutters and other beauties at estate sales, barn sales, thrifts, antique stores, garage sales, flea markets, FB Marketplace, FB groups and through friends of friends. No matter how rusty and crusty, buy or trade, we restore them with the same pride that they were made with long ago.
