This is a handmade treenware wooden spurtle kitchen utensil wooden spatula carved from Sugar Mape wood.
It is 11 5/8 inches long and 2 7/8 inches wide. It has a gently curving blade rounded at the tip. This design is made stout, so it will be better for mixing. The blade portion of this one is 4 1/2 inches long. I make the blade fairly thick but with a thin tip so you can get under crepes or other things that need turning. Use it to turn crepes, scramble eggs, stir a sauce, or smack your husband in the forehead for asking, "When's it going to be ready?" one too many times.
I made this based on the old butter spoons and paddles ubiquitous in antique stores. The ball end is my addition, and I think it makes the handle extra comfortable and gives a good grip when mixing dough.
This spurtle is finished and ready to ship, and you will receive the one shown.
Finished with beeswax and mineral oil.
Care is easy. Just wash with hot, soapy water and towel dry. Don't put it in the dishwasher or leave it soaking for long periods in the sink. Apply mineral oil every two weeks or oil and beeswax mixed together. With proper care, your spoon will look and feel good for many years.
