San Bartolo Coyotepec is characterized by its black barro crafts. This material allows artisans to make elegant and very detailed pieces. During the construction of these pieces, the natural mud is moulded to give it the desired shape. The time to produce a piece will depend on the complexity of the figure. Once the figure is obtained, the pieces are polished with leather or quartz and allowed to dry for approximately 4 days. To finally put them in a wood kiln for 3 to 6 hours, where they acquire their characteristic black color.
