~ MEASUREMENT: 9-1/2"wide x 6-3/4" high x 4-1/2" deep

This is a gorgeous, rare, and unusual turn-of-the-century porcelain clay majolica French salvage floral funeral cemetery marker, which will look fabulous on a table, or shelf in your French Country, Rustic Farmhouse, Cottage, or Shabby Chic home.

Done in sculpted clay, this piece features a brown basket (jardiniere) with glazed finish, and filled with beautifully detailed and highly dimensional pink and purple violet flowers accented by green leaves.

The weather is very inclement during the winters in France, and pieces such as there were most often used on a grave or monument rather than real flowers. It rests at a slight angle so that all of the wonderful detailing can be seen.

I recently saw a 1920's trade catalog of porcelain funeral wreaths and crosses offered by the Hte. Boulenger & Cie Company. This wonderful piece was listed in the catalog. Price of catalog … $275.00!

~ CONDITION: This gorgeous piece is in amazing antique condition, with only a couple of tiniest little flea bites. These are age appropriate and to be expected, given the fact that this piece has been outside on the ground for almost 100 years!!!!! It is such a rarity and true find to come across one of these beautiful pieces, and I have never had one quite like this!! Plots in France were leased for 99 years. At the end of that time, if there was no one to renew the lease, beautiful pieces such as this were removed, and generally turned over to a broker or charity to be sold off. Pieces such as this can still be seen in the large famous cemeteries such as Père Lachaise and Moeze. See last photo.
