陳桃女士，出生於貧寒農家，從小送給陳家做為養女。在陳家幫助養父母上山撿拾柴火、挑水、煮飯，並幫忙照顧相繼出世的養弟妹。

為了彌補幼時失學的遺憾，陳桃女士於七十多歲時參加政府舉辦的社區小學課程。她學會寫字後的第一件事，就是開心地把子女及親朋好友的電話記在簿子裡。此外，她用毛筆寫了一幅書法卷軸掛在牆上，字體剛毅中帶著婉約。她好學不倦的精神令人敬佩。儘管她是班上年紀最長的學生，她從不缺席，因此還獲頒縣長的勤學獎。
