Our Farmhouse walk-in chicken coop plans are great for any backyard DIYer. At 130 square feet (10' x 10' 4") the Farmhouse comfortably houses any flock size from 2 – 20 birds. We carefully designed it to keep out pests and predators, such as rats, raccoons & coyotes etc.
By building your coop on a cement slab or paver floor it creates a deep litter ready floor and allows for easy clean up and deep cleaning when necessary.
A full sized human door is one of the many features added to make accessing the run so nice for us chicken keepers. Not only are you able to enter and exit without stooping but you can remain standing to perform the typical duties to keep your chickens pen and house clean.
Metal roofing provides cover from extreme outdoor elements and a dry, mud free enclosure year round.
In addition, the solid wood construction of the hen house is strategically placed at waist level creating again that deep litter flooring. If you have ever experienced deep litter floor designs you can attest to its simplicity and ease. Basically it becomes a giant litter box of sorts allowing you to sift out the mess. Dreamy!
Secret storage underneath the hen house is perfect for hiding away your cleaning items, simply install storage spring clips to hold any long handled tools. In addition, the ample floor space in the run allows you to keep all your chicken supplies and extra food right were you need them. No more running around collecting all the things scattered about in the garage, the house or the shed. Big time saver!
The well thought out hen house is designed to keep your chickens cozy and warm all winter long. Ramp access for your birds is located in the floor of the hen house keeping the drafts at a minimum. Our roosts are installed in such a way to allow your birds to nest down on top of their feet to maintain optimal heat and comfort. With the vertical space in the hen house roosts can be custom designed to suit your flock size. During the summer months the two large doors on the the hen house can be opened to allow for added ventilation and fresh air.
Nesting boxes are accessible from the outside for easy egg collection which is always a fan favorite.
The open run provides 100 square feet of floor space and plenty of room to create a play ground. Play grounds are fun to design and are made by adding chicken swings, inventive roosts or simply secure a found branch or large piece of driftwood to make good vertical use of your run.
All coops are designed by me, built and tested out before I sell them. The cost to build the Farmhouse coop averages around $800-$1500 (prior to the pandemic) depending on your location and your choice of roofing and siding selections. We built this one out of mostly repurposed items three years ago which did bring our overall cost down. It is by far my most favorite thing to look out my window and see, its beauty invites me to go out and enjoy my chickens and its ease of use is like none other!
