The Hemingray Glass Company was an American glass manufacturing company founded by Robert Hemingray and Ralph Gray in Cincinnati in 1848.

This insulator Number 42 double petticoat was specifically designed for use on Telegraph lines. It served as a support for wires, preventing them from coming into contact with the wooden poles or other structures. The insulator’s shape allowed the wire to be threaded through it, keeping it elevated and insulated.
Used from approximately 1921 to 1960s.

The insulator is made of green aqua glass, which was a common color for such insulators. The original patina indicates its age and prolonged exposure to the elements. The patina adds character and authenticity to this piece.
