c1890. Antique English Silver Plated Dinner Gong, By William Tonks & Sons

This is a DINNER GONG by WILLIAM TONKS & SONS of BIRMINGHAM,

The silver plated gong with butterfly design is suspended in the frame, with columns and decorated above with griffin like creatures, sitting on a stepped base with supports for the striker ( striker support hooks are missing ),at the top is a circle finial or carry handle.

Under the stepped base is a cast iron weight stamped W.T.& S, and their sunburst logo.
The gong is 6" in diameter by 1 1/4" deep, and the whole stands 11 1/4" tall.

Total weight is a little over 2.3 kg. Good condition. late 19th. century.

The striker hammer is a new replacement as this was missing.
