(I have some really interesting specimens to list, so check back.) Here’s an updated pic! Actual plant on offer 108, vigorous. Described in 2006 by Chinese scientists working in the sparse forests in China. The very rare Begonia grows on shady limestone hills. The area is in the southernmost region of China situated just above Vietnam in the Autonomous Region of Guangxi Zhuangzu at 820 feet. The species was named ningmingensis despite not looking at all like the Vietnamese namesake. The variation name is ‘bella’ for this Begonias remarkable beauty. The researchers described the major veins on the upper surfaces together with the contrasting red on the lower surface that Begonia enthusiasts so admire. In nature the plant flowers from September to October. The plants flourish under 1650 lumens and the variation in the colors is described in the literature.. In nature, it is extremely rare growing only in 1 locality in Southwestern Guangxi. (C-I. Peng, S. M. Ku, Y.G. Wei) The slope where it was found was very dry and while the leaves will dry out with insufficient water, or humidity, in some regions of the country, this plant can be acclimated to a house plant, or kept on a bed of wet gravel.
