After graduating from the Academy of Industrial Art in 1955, Anja Jaatinen-Winquist (born 1934, Sortavala, Russia) worked as an assistant to Aune Siimes for five years. Until 1974 she worked for the product development department of Arabia where she designed and decorated various tableware in the factory. The M-model Karelia with iron oxide decor is one of her best-known designs. As a highly experienced potter, she also created unique objects, including bottles and cups that she expertly decorated with matte brown hues. Jaatinen-Winquist mixed her clay for stoneware herself.
