This antique wood, hand carved spice or masala box has two compartments and a pivoting cover. The wood has a wonderful smooth, aged patina. This is a great piece of history and makes a great “objet d’ art” and conversation piece. It also could be used as a box for special treasures or jewelry.

What is a masala box?
The origins of the masala box can be traced back to ancient India, where spices were used not only for their flavor but also for their medicinal properties. The use of spices in cooking was a symbol of wealth and social status.
