The exact usage is unknown, but it is obviously a press of some type. It will fit and sit on top of a standard cup. It is well made but not meant for robust pressing but for more fine things, like tea or herbs.
This one is in excellent condition with no dents or rust. The brass has an excellent patina. The nickel plating is mostly intact. It works perfectly.
Measures just over 2 1/4" tall and 3 1/2" wide.
