Ancient Mid 1850s >> Faitout / Marmite / Stock Pot with its iron lifting swing handle and beautifully detailed copper swing handle brackets secured each side of the pot with three copper rivets that secures the cast iron lifting handle firmly for easy carrying/lifting onto and off of the hob.
Made by hand from solid copper and formed into shape then sealed with dovetailed seams by brass solder all around the underside of the pot and under one of the lifting handle base plates to the top rim.
This is a perfect size for most modern day kitchens, sitting over a gas hob or direct into the oven.
The cast iron swing handle folds down easily. Secured sturdily with the thick copper handle base plates
Possibly from old Chateau kitchen or from a large restaurant or hotel . It is a solid piece in very good condition for age. Fully complete with the iron carry handle and thick copper lid lifting ring
This Ancient piece of cookware is a real beauty and it is becoming increasingly hard to find the good ones such as this one. The "marks" you may see on the copper are just reflections of the floor tiles.
Very sturdily made, The outer top rim has some tin overspill from its last re tinning.
The lid still fits well to create a perfect seal during slow cooking
This is a good sized stock / stew pot that will hold a decent amount of food or thick Winter warming stews and weighs 6.64lbs or 3.01Kgs.
It is a Antique quality, professional piece of kitchen cookware designed for cooking up a good amount of food in one hit for large Families or for batch cooking to freeze down meals for later use, saving both time and money to just warm up a pre cooked meal.
A traditional French Fait tout (Do All) used for braising, stewing, and for making large stews, stocks, soups etc etc and is a must have for any good copper kitchen.
The lid fits well and when on, it creates a good seal. It has a thick and detailed copper strip to accommodate the copper ring lift handle.
There is some tin overspill on the outer lid rim from the last re1tinning
The pot has a cast iron curved swing handle which is used for carrying it around or to hang the pot on a hook over a large open kitchen fireplaces.
This cast iron handle is attached to the copper side plates on each side of the pot which are riveted with three sturdy copper rivets.
The tin lining on the pot and lid are both still good for age although have grayed / darkened with past usage. Slight copper loss just on the lid rivets, everywhere else looks complete and ready to use.
The pot does have some very light surface scratches and darkened small age marks but this in no way detracts from the beauty of this Antique pan or affect its future use in any way.
There is scope for an even more copper shine with regular cleaning. Just light dings on the rounded base edge of the bottom of pot.
It has a very slightly curved bottom as was designed, but it sits perfectly upright unaided.
An honest all round pot created from a craftsman who has long since gone but his handed down skills are still very much evident in this quality pan.
A stunning piece of Ancient French history and a great addition to any collection!
It would sit so well into any style kitchen.
