This all natural Suri Alpaca fiber is the perfect addition to any bird lover's garden! This listing is for 7 oz of fiber only. This fiber is the soft and warm leg and belly fiber of our Suri Alpacas and it is attractive to the birds to make a comfortable, durable and cozy nest. Stuff the fleece into a grapevine ball or a suet feeder, hang from a tree branch and watch from your window while the birds come pick off pieces for their nests. It is not only great for birds but it can double as garden mulch helping to retain moisture in the soil of your garden pots or garden beds. You can also use larger quantities of fiber in your garden beds and it will naturally felt and create a weed barrier. It can also be spread and tilled into the dirt. It is an all natural and sustainable alternative to traditional mulch materials as it is biodegradable. I have also used alpaca fiber to help insulate my outdoor cat beds. It can also be composted. Your fiber will arrive vacuum-packed to create the smallest possible package.
This fiber is primarily 100% Suri Alpaca leg and belly fiber, typically called thirds, from our herd. The fiber may include some Huacaya fiber for color variety. The fiber colors you receive will depend on availability, but you will receive a mix of colors. It is NOT washed, but has been picked through and shaken to remove large debris. You may find small pieces of hay, straw and dust. 7 oz is enough fiber for at least two suet feeders or grapevine balls depending on how full you stuff them. For larger quantities please message me for availability and pricing.
Instructions: Recommended to use this product outdoors as it has not been washed and may have small bits of hay, straw or dust. Pull out pieces of the fiber and stuff into a grapevine ball or suet feeder. Be sure to let some stick out, so the birds will notice it. Most birds will use this for nesting, but some may not be interested and that will depend on the types of birds in your area. This fiber is safe for birds as it separates easily. Do NOT add string, yarn or fabric to this fiber as it can get tangled and caught in their feet and beaks.
This listing is for the raw fiber only. See separate listing for grapevine balls or suet feeders pre-filled with alpaca fiber.
My alpacas are treated very gently during the shearing process which is critical to keep them healthy and cool in the hot weather. Their fleece grows back every year.
This fiber is for outdoor use only, not for spinning or felting.
