Deep Sienna Reddish Brown Stoneware Pitcher and Cups with White Sand Glaze Accenting the Lips

This juice set reminds me of garnet set in frothy white, or of deep red cliffs below a snowing mesa with the icy tendrils trailing down the top. I started with a substantial somewhat squat pitcher. I added an exaggerated pulled handle with a curl at its base and an extra ring of clay around the joint between the pot and the top of the handle. I carved a large flower in the unglazed base. Then I made fivematching cups. Each is just the right size for morning juice or some other refreshing beverage. The bases have an impressed floral motif. The lips flare slightly echoing the form of the pitcher and making them easy to hold. I glazed the entire set in Ethyl's red which fired to a very deep color over the white stoneware clay. Then I added a topping of Webster's White Sand glaze to each. It blended and dripped down the sides to form a frothy pattern that is pleasing to the eye and the lips.
