Royal Opera House Costume Breeches Pants Trousers Velvet Splash Hand Painted Gold Metal Trim Burnt Orange

Incredible pair of breeches made for Royal Opera House, London. I estimate these are mid century. The skill involved with the design and craft is beautiful. Cotton canvas and velvet with gold metal ribbon trim. The whole piece has been decorated with gold and orange splatter paint. The cotton canvas panels have been hand painted. There is an acetate orange panel down each side which is also splatter decorated. Gold woven metal ribbon loops hang from the legs. Velvet decorative tabs run down the sides of the legs. They fasten at the waist with one sturdy metal hook and eye. There is a long open seam below. Leg openings are elasticated. Fully lined in cotton.

A beautiful treasure.

Measures: 30” waist, 16” rise, 29” full length.
