Beautiful rare wild British Soldier Lichen hand foraged from the wild.
Each order contains 1-2 small chunks of lichen attached to its original substrate, sizes of pieces range but are usually about 1-2 inches across.
*Please be aware that the lichens themselves are very very tiny. The individual lichen spikes range from only a few millimeters to up to an inch in height. These are very slow growing lichens – only growing 1-3mm per year on average. They are fairly uncommon to find, so sustainable harvest is *extremely important*, this is also why we can only sell them in small pieces.
We also sometimes find these lichens growing together with pixie cups on the same piece of substrate, if we have this combo in stock, you can select it from the drop down menu at checkout 🙂
🌸🌱 Looking to add a bit of lush color and whimsy to your lichen order? We can add a small cup of moss to your order if you wish, just select the option from the drop down menu at checkout. You can arrange the moss around your lichens to add a little whimsical charm, it’s only a 3.25 ounce sample cup, so if you need more moss, we highly recommend our moss sampler pack! You can find it here:
We also have plenty of other moss options! Moss also adds controlled moisture which can help keep your pixies hydrated between misting sessions. You can also just purchase the pixie cups by themselves – see the drop down menu at checkout.
——About British Soldier Lichen—-
This magical looking lichen is found in nature growing along the base of dead trees, rotting stumps, and broken down woody debris in shaded forests. These charming spikey lichens are adorned with little red tips making them appear to be wearing tiny hats.
These lichens are incredibly rare for us to find, they can be very small and quite difficult to spot out in the wild. Finding them is a wonderful adventure into the darkest corners of the forest.
We sustainably hand-pick all of our live mosses, lichens, and fungi from the wild on our own remote off-grid property in the mountains of Vermont, far far away from pollutants or chemicals of any kind, these are naturally organic.
*Every order comes with a general facts and care sheet. If you do not receive one in with your order, message me and I will email one to you.

Wild mosses and lichens are quite hardy and adaptable to transport, relocation, and transplant. They have a higher survival rate compared to propagated specimens so an excellent choice for landscaping, terrariums, and vivariums. However, please be aware of the applications of wild vs propagated.
*Wild moss and lichen are not grown in a sterile environment, please do your own research before using wild varieties of mosses with sensitive terrarium pets such as insects, amphibians, and reptiles
