MORE ABOUT AIR PLANTS
——————————————————————————————–
"Tillandsia are members of the bromeliad family and are native to tropical regions such as Central and South America. They don't root in soil, but rather attach themselves to trees and receive the nutrients they require from the air and rainfall. Air plants come in a wide spectrum of colors, shapes and sizes. All varieties will flower and live at a fuss factor just above rocks." -Susan Dunlap, McClatchy Newspapers.
A GENERAL GUIDE TO CARING FOR AIR PLANTS:
Tillandsias are really very hardy plants and require much less attention than other house plants. Start by completely submerging your new plant for 20-30 minutes after bringing it home – turn it upside down, shake off the excess water and set it in an area with good air circulation to completely dry before placing in your hand crafted mudpuppy air plant container.
People tend to think of these plants as needing little or no water (i.e. living on air) but your plant does indeed need to be watered regularly. It is as easy as running the entire plant under the faucet 2 to 3 times a week. Your plant will also appreciate a good soaking, submerged in water, for several hours every 1 to 2 weeks. Spray misting is insufficient as the sole means of watering.
Air plants prefer bright, filtered light.
