My Handmade Wall Clock offers a unique aesthetic that complements any room and strikes the viewer as quite unique! Because of the nature of the design and the Eastern red cedar, no two clocks will ever be exactly the same.

More than just a timepiece; it's a statement of craftsmanship and elegance. Yes, the octagonal shape is hardly ever seen in clocks, but what is really fascinating about this cedar clock is the way that the brass numerals reflect the light. What I mean is, when you walk past the clock, the numerals pick up light sources in the room–but they seem to scintillate or flicker because as you move, the reflections come and go. Really special I have to say!

Beautifully crafted (such as the veritable lack of glue visible in the numerous joints), this versatile clock is designed to be adaptable to your living space. The black hands against the color of the cedar make it quite visible even from twenty or thirty feet away.

There are currently two versions of this wonderful wall clock–all Eastern cedar, and which is simply raw wood (no shellac or anything). Secondly there is a version that has many different woods, mostly red oak. Both are excellently made if I do say so myself! Dimensions are 14.5-15 inches in diameter respectively, and about 1" thick. The clock mechanism is battery powered. Real brass Roman numerals are present on the cedar clock, and the Arabic numerals on the multi-colored clock are metal painted white. One aspect of the cedar clock is the way the numbers scintillate in the light as you move around the room!

Note the choice I made in regard to the orientation of the numerals: both the Roman numerals and the Arabic numerals are anchored to the edge of the clock. In contrast, the more common method of displaying Arabic numerals is to orient them to the eye of the viewer (that is, the numerals are always "facing right-side up") because your head is always right-side-up! You might not even know what I'm referring to, but if you look at the "6" you'll see it is "upside down" according to the eye, but consistently aligned with the outer edge of the clock (all the numerals' tops are closest to the edge of the clock) just like Roman numerals are (which is why the "6" which is symbolized by a "VI" is upside down in relation to the eye, and so on. You either like that artsy style, or you don't! No sweat if you don't; I could always make you one that is more conventional if you wish.

NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE

COLOR
Please know that Eastern red cedar, which is actually in the juniper family, darkens over time. When you first receive the clock it will strike you as pink and lovely, and as time has its way with the wood–as it does to us all–you will notice it maturing to a browner hue. But by then you will have become accustomed to the clock and it won't matter very much. Cherry does the same, and pine gets a patina as well. It's just how the most beautiful woods mature!

A NOTE ABOUT ITS MAKING
Shoppy has two categories one must choose when describing a clock: that I made it entirely, or that it is made from prepurchased parts. I bought the hands, the numerals, and the quartz mechanism. Everything else is made by hand, and I assure you the method of joining all the wedges of cedar is a tedious one–but with superb results. The craftsmanship will strike you as excellent, I predict.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Dust the clock gently with a soft, dry cloth to keep it clean. Harsh chemicals or water shouldn't be needed. Regular dusting will help maintain its sleek and elegant appearance. If you choose to add a finish I would probably suggest sprayed varnish or tung oil.
