Judging by the way this beautiful antique hand-made copper measuring cup has been made by the coppersmith, with its hand-made dovetail joints and copper riveted handle, it probably dates from the 18th century. Sourced in south-west France near the Atlantic coast, this is most likely a measuring jug used for grog, rum or liquor rations in the French navy. Black with age when found, it has been carefully restored to bring back its glorious colour and shine. A wonderful display piece for any collection, or to stand alone giving a pop of warmth to any kitchen, it measures approx 20cm across the top and 25cm (6") high. Weighs 1.26kg (2lb 8oz).
