I have been exploring beautiful Kawandi methods that look similar to Kantha. I hope to continue with more pieces soon.
Kawandi are hand-stitched patchwork quilts made by the Siddis, descendants of African immigrants brought as slaves to India. They are traditionally made from pieces of old and worn-out clothing collected from family members and friends. One unique quality of a Kawandi quilt is that the pieces of fabric are individually added from the outside going in, usually in a counterclockwise direction.
The patches are then stitched one piece at a time using running hand stitches in a spiral towards the center, covering the patchwork top and the backing.
