Royal Worcester Egg Coddlers 1940s with Bird Motif Two Standard One King

Materials: porcelain

If you are British you know what an egg coddler is, but for most Americans, these little jars hold cotton balls and other vanity items. Egg coddlers were ubiquitous in British homes from the 19th century until the past few decades when they fell out of favor. While egg coddlers can still be used to coddle eggs, they can also be used to heat up baby food. Most people use these as decorations now.

These three coddlers were made between 1931-1950. I know that because of the backstamp. There are two standard and one king, which are the two sizes egg coddlers come in.

From the Royal Worcester museum page on egg coddlers:
"In 1931, a new material, Fireproof Cooking Porcelain was used to make coddlers and other Oven-to-tableware items. This true hard porcelain was developed by Royal Worcester to resist thermal shock."

These three 80 year-old coddlers are in extraordinary condition.

The king is 3.25" tall (without handle). The standards are 2.25" tall
