Quite rare silver plated bread or serving dish from the historic Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, California.
The Hotel Del Monte was a large resort hotel that opened in 1880 and closed in 1942. Built by railroad magnate Charles Crocker, the hotel was considered one of the finest luxury hotels in North America before World War II. It was a trendsetter in tourism and recreation, and hosted many notable guests, including American presidents, film stars, and members of royal families.
This lovely dish would have been used for serving rolls or small sides of vegetables, etc. The dish bears the Del Monte's crest. It has polished up beautifully and has a gleaming patina. Some light surface scratches.
It measures 10-3/4" long by 5-1/2" wide and 1-1/2" deep.
Manufactured by Gorham and stamped, "Del Monte". Date symbol is 1926.
A highly collectible piece of hotel silver!
