A note on preservatives:
Any product that contains water must include a preservative. Where there is water, there is life. Please keep this in mind when shopping for DIY skin care products that contain water or that may come in contact with water during use. The alcohol in this formula acts as an emulsifier for the essential oils and as a preservative. I use 40% alcohol to sufficiently preserve the mixture yet it is low enough to significantly mask the smell of alcohol while misting.

Fragrance type:
Eau de Cologne (due to the aromatic strength of the oils used in this blend, the aroma is likely to linger for hours more than expected)

Fragrance Concentration Guide:
This guide will help you understand fragrance strength and longevity. Please keep in mind that all-natural fragrances offer a distinctly different experience compared to synthetic ones. Expect to reapply more often with natural fragrances. Synthetic fragrances are less dynamic; their aroma doesn’t evolve over time and generally have much stronger staying power. Natural fragrances are not meant to mask your own scent; they work with your individual chemistry. They smell different on every person and have distinct top, middle, and base notes, so the aroma will transform over time. Top notes last less than 30 minutes, middle notes from 30 minutes to a few hours, and base notes last most of the day. Even within each category, each essence has its own individual evaporation rate, so fragrances can behave quite differently from one another.

In our modern world, we are often bombarded with very strong synthetic fragrances throughout the day. Naturals require you to tune into subtle transformations, which can take some getting used to. As you train your body and nose to detect nuances in natural scents, your experience of the world changes too. You are able to navigate the world in a more human-animal way. Think of it like this: when a person’s diet consists of highly processed, high-sugar, calorie-rich foods that are naturally addicting to our bodies, it can take some time for that person to adjust their sense of taste once they choose to eat healthier, natural foods. I experience this myself all the time. If I eat a whole box of Oreos, that quinoa with vegetables and avocado that I thoroughly enjoyed earlier that day sounds soooo lame, as I skip over it and search for more instant dopamine sugar hits. It takes conscious effort for me to not give in to that urge and reset my palate before I crave and savor those healthy, natural foods again.

Having said that, I invite you to adjust your expectations accordingly. If you are comparing natural fragrance to how synthetic fragrance works, expect to reapply several times a day.

Perfume (Parfum): 20-40% lasts 8 hours of more
Eau de Parfum (EDP): 15 -20% lasts 4-5 hours
Eau de Toilette (EDT): 5 -15% lasts 3-4 hours
Eau de Cologne (EDC) 2 – 4% lasts 2 hours
Eau Fraiche: 1 – 3% lasts 1 hour
The percentages above may vary slightly from brand to brand (not by much). Aroma strength and staying power of individual oils can vary greatly and IFRA dermal limits may apply to certain natural scent chemicals.

A common misconception is that perfume is “for women” and cologne is for “men”. The words “perfume” and “cologne” only refer to the concentration of fragrance oils. There is a rich and complex history to these classifications however the short answer is- Any gender based distinction is constructed by and for marketing purposes. All of my products are for all genders.
